WHAT’S AT STAKE
In an election where nothing can be left on the table, we find ourselves at a critical moment for our democracy — with reproductive justice carrying the torch for our collective freedom.
Abortion: A Defining Issue for the 2024 Election
Recent New York Times/Siena College polls reveal that an increasing share of swing-state voters now consider abortion to be a central issue in this fall’s election. In fact, a record 32% of U.S. voters, according to Gallup, say they will only support candidates who share their views on abortion. Among women under 45, abortion has even surpassed the economy as their top concern.
At this moment, 41 states have abortion bans in effect, with 14 enforcing total bans. Additionally, 10 states will have legislation related to reproductive rights on their ballots in 2024. This is emerging as a singular issue that transcends party lines, with the potential to unite voters across the country behind candidates committed to restoring these essential freedoms.
An Assault on our Democracy
The future of our nation, as of January 20, 2025, hinges on whether we allow this conservative agenda to prevail. Despite the fact that a majority of Americans support a woman’s right to a safe and legal abortion, as demonstrated by a 2024 Pew Center Study, the radical conservative movement has continued to weaponize this issue over time. They are relentless in their push to roll back these rights—even extending their attacks to access to IVF—and promise to keep going until no state allows women or girls the legal right to an abortion.
Our very democracy is at stake, and there is no starker example of this than the ongoing assault on women’s reproductive freedoms. No issue more clearly threatens the heart and soul of our democratic values. The Heritage Foundation’s “Plan for 2025” outlines an authoritarian regime that seeks to further erode the rights and freedoms that are fundamental to the fabric of America.
Public Response and the Path Ahead
Since the Dobbs decision, voters across the country, including those in traditionally red states, have made it clear that they are committed to preserving a woman’s right to choose. Voters nationwide have consistently rejected draconian abortion bans, and now, with reproductive rights on the ballot in several key states in 2024, abortion is emerging as the defining issue of this election.
Artists and cultural leaders are increasingly using their platforms to call for women’s freedoms, and encourage their fans to vote. The public response is extremely promising with spikes in voter registration and overall civic engagement, particularly with young people. Our campaign will continue building this momentum leading up to the election this November 5, 2024.
